Stage 4: Team *Leadership* in Network Marketing

I have another one coming SOON to help those of you reaching out to me wondering how to get beyond the STUCK feeling in the learning stage.

ACTION is key…ask yourself this question every single day:

How am I going to create EXPOSURES to my message (of product and opportunity)?

Let me know your thoughts on this one by leaving a comment below the video.

I appreciate you being here!

What Does It Mean To Be A *Leader* In Network Marketing?

I absolutely love this picture.

Earlier today, as I surfed for a photo for this post, this one caught my eye and inspired a lesson about LEADERSHIP.

First, let’s clarify what we’re looking at in the picture.

I see a gathering of BLUE guys (male?…well, yeah, I think so) and a RED guy standing on a stage above them.  The red guy looks animated, like he’s telling a story.

In my mind, the RED guy is the leader.

Who are the blue guys?

…Followers?

Mostly.  (And a few leaders-in-training.)

A group of passive followers…and a few rising star leaders.

The rising stars are the ones in the front, just below the stage, with the keen eyes—see em?  They’re the ones taking in every word the RED guy so passionately shares.

After the talk, the really sharp BLUE guys will linger.  They want some time to chat with the RED guy and develop a relationship with him.

When they do finally head home, these few BLUE guys will immediately IMPLEMENT exactly what they learned from the RED guy.

If the RED guy is a TRUE leader, he’ll be watching for those keen BLUE guys standing out from the crowd.

Over time, the keenest BLUE guy will prove himself in the RED guy’s eyes—by implementing his teachings, taking MASSIVE ACTION, and seeing *RESULTS.*  Then—and ONLY then—the RED guy will take that leader-in-training under his wing and begin the process of leading the new found leader.

As a *TRUE* leader, the RED guy will lead—mostly by example—and mentor the rising star leader until the Red guy can step back and support the development of MORE leaders.

And so, the cycle continues.  The question is:

Where are you in this picture?

Are you about to step up to the stage?  Are you committed to becoming a Red guy or a Red gal?

I hope so. Because it’s the ONLY way you’re going to get more out of your network marketing business: you must work toward BEING that RED guy up on the stage.  And when the time comes, you’ll be ready to step aside to allow other leaders in your organization some time on the stage, too.

Do you want to do yourself a favor?

Determine WHO the leaders are in your organization and learn from them.

Follow what they do.  Study their every move.  Attend their conference calls.  Get your hands on their training products….  Do everything you can to immerse yourself in their mentorship.

If you study the true leaders—PLUS you take massive action on what you learn—you WILL see results.

Your dedication and drive will be watched by the Red guy.  Guaranteed.

Soon, you’ll have earned yourself a mentor. Take the Red guy’s wisdom and run with it.  Then get ready.

You’ll be looking for that rising star: the keen BLUE guy, the one who looked a lot like you did—before you became a RED guy.

Do you have a Squeeze Page In Your Toolbelt?

My husband Zach is a carpenter.  He’s the inspiration behind this TOOLBELT series.

Well, just like my hudband can’t call himself a carpenter (or do his job effectively!) without a hammer, you cannot market online without a SQUEEZE PAGE.

A squeeze page is the entrance to your marketing funnel and without it, you have no way of capturing your lead’s information, which is critical for building relationships with people online.

So, let’s discuss the ‘guts’ of a squeeze page in general terms and stick with the example we used before:  http://IncreaseYourMLMProfits.com

A squeeze page when it comes down to it is where you make your offer to your prospect.  If they bite, an exchange occurs.  Your prospect becomes a lead by handing you their name and email address (and phone possibly) and you give them your free offer, such as a report.

I like to think of it as a weeding out process.

The people who come through your squeeze page are interested in what you’re offering.  And that’s good.  You certainly want them to be!

The most highly converting squeeze pages include either audio or video to increase the development of relationship between you and your lead.

This is important in two ways.

  1. Your prospect is more likely to opt-in (fill out their information in the form on your squeeze page) if they like your personal message.
  2. Your lead (after they enter their name and other info) is more likely to remember you and open your email when they return to their inbox.

Relationship is key.  Without it, we’re just words typed on a screen.

Besides your offer, your squeeze page connects to a piece of software called an auto-responder.  This is how your leads are delivered: automated email messages on a pre-set time interval.  When your prospect enters their name and email address, and then clicks the ‘SUBMIT’ button, the auto-responder is automatically activated and the email messages begin their journey to your lead’s inbox.

Head on over to http://IncreaseYourMLMProfits.com and take a critical look at all the components of that squeeze page example.  This page converts well and is part of a template system I’ll be offering shortly to all my OMU students.

Stay tuned!

Next, let’s delve into list building and another essential tool for ALL online marketers - The auto-responder.

P.S.  If you’ll allow me to stretch a metaphor further, let me tell you about my husband’s shop.  I asked him how many hammers he owns.  His response?  “Oh, I don’t know…easily a dozen, probably more like two dozen.”

Why so many — brad hammers, finish, framing, waffle head, ball pean, all the way up to 14lb handforged sledge?

Just like in carpentry, once you ascend to a higher level of experience in the network marketing business, you’ll have all sorts of squeeze pages.  Each for different jobs.  But don’t worry about that for now.  We’ll get to the purpose behind multiple squeeze pages at a later date.

Network Marketing Online: Your TOOLBELT

Like a carpenter, an online network marketer needs a toolbelt in order to perform their job effectively.

Today I want to discuss one critical part of our toolbelt: the squeeze page, also known as a capture page, lead capture page, splash page, etc.

A squeeze page is a one page website that acts as the entrance to your marketing funnel (don’t panic, we’ll get to this in a latter post) with the sole purpose of capturing your prospect’s contact information.

I’ve chosen the funnel as today’s image post for a reason.  It represents your squeeze page. So remember that.

To market effectively online, there is one thing we are aiming to do - build relationships with people and expand our current networks.

To do this effectively, we need a way to share our message in a split second and entice our prospect to hand us their contact information so we can stay in touch with them to - guess what?

Build stronger relationships over time.

You see, on the internet, we have such a finite amount of time capture our prospects’ attention.  You know the feeling of looking for information online.  If you don’t see it, you move to another page without a second thought.  Even the most compelling websites will lose the opportunity to build relationships with prospects if they don’t capture that person’s information,

Because your prospect, no matter how much they liked your website, may never remember how to get back to it!

So, to reiterate, a squeeze page is a one page website with a form to capture your prospect’s information.  The sole purpose of a squeeze page is to build that relationship and stay in touch with your leads.

Why the funnel?

Because not all the visitors who land on your site will be interested enough in your offer to enter their contact information and become a lead.

Darn!

No. It’s not a bad thing at all! In fact you want this.

The fact that ONLY people who are highly interested in what you have to offer enter their contact information to become a lead means that:

You’ve weeded out people who aren’t interested in your message so you can focus on building relationships with the ones who are!

If you’re not entirely sure what a squeeze page is, or looks like, have a look at a new one I just released:

http://IncreaseYourMLMProfits.com

Next, we’re going to examine the CONTENT of a squeeze page. Stay tuned for more shortly…and in the meantime, leave me a comment below and let me know if you ‘get’ the message of this post.

Who Really Succeeds?

Alright, this is a bit off topic, but worth sharing.

Today I watch a video from a fellow marketer who described a new member of his team, Gary, who’s creating massive amounts of success VERY quickly in his high ticket direct sales business.

Gary’s pulling in $1000 commissions over and over again….and he’s only been in the business (and online!) for two months.  AND, he works full time at a day job.

After watching the video today, I took a look at this newbie Gary’s success and here’s what I saw:

A guy who’s taking ACTION.  Massive Action.

And you know what I did?

I picked up the phone and called Gary.

When he answered, he was a little surprised to hear from me (he knew who I was), and I said:

Gary, I want to tell you you’re doing fantastic - you’re doing exactly what needs to be done…and you’re seeing results. It’s great to see and I’m really happy for you.

We had a good chat.

So  now, WHAT exactly is Gary doing to rake in $1000 commissions over and over after only 2 months (!!) in the online marketing world.

Here’s what he’s doing.

  1. He joined a high ticket direct sales business.
  2. He created a landing page and wrote at least one back end email message loaded in his autoresponder.
  3. So far he’s made 25, 2 minute videos sharing valuable short lessons to his target niche.  Uploaded them to youtube and other syndication sites, including metacafe, google video, yahoo video, truveo, etc.  (these are all free btw.)
  4. He’s investing in PPC (pay per click) advertising with Google.
  5. And he’s learning a little bit each day and putting the new knowlege INTO ACTION - this is key.

This same process can be duplicated by YOU and anyone else who really tastes success.

That’s the cool thing about this industry.

Anyone who wants to, can put the knowledge into action and see results.

Especially now, during these uncertain economic times, we’re in a fantastic position to take advantage of the endless numbers of people coming online every day searching for an opportunity to earn extra money.

If you position yourself RIGHT, you’ll  bring in endless distributors to your business in the coming months and years ahead.

Learn and implement - that’s the name of the game!

Part II: Before you head out of the gate…

You’re probably wondering where the heck you start, right?

First off, I want to stress that your first 6 months of internet network marketing (or for that matter - off line networking as well) is your time to LEARN and absorb as much as you possibly can from people who you enjoy and KNOW are successful.

These people are your mentors.  And since there is no ONE network marketing GURU-bob out there who knows all…you find your own mentors and learn from their successes.  Repeat what fits your budget and style :)

One young fellow and now wonderful friend of mine, Jonathan Budd, has been a very influential mentor to me.

Back when I was struggling with traditional methods of networking I stumbled across Jonathan’s email list and instantly connected with his messages.   I bought his courses, put the information into action and saw RESULTS.

Before we get on with today’s message, I want you to sign up for Jonathan’s email list.

Word ‘o WARNING: He writes a fair bit.  No problems if you make a folder, file his messages if you’re pressed for time and make sure to get to them as time allows.

Click here to sign up to Jonathan’s email list.

If you’re interested in his ebooks, ask my opinion (in a comment below) on which you ought to buy - I’ll give you my honest to goodness low down.

Now, back to the task at hand.

I’m not really into cliche phrases, but there’s one I’ve gotta use today because it really hits home the message I want to give you today.  It goes like this:

Go slow to go fast.

Brilliant eh?

Here’s the deal.

Most of us come into the network marketing industry because something in our life stinks. We want to make things better (rightly so!) - and the last thing we want is to make ourselves busier with a part time business that doesn’t make us any money!!

Well, get used to it, cause that’s the reality.

Just about EVERY network marketer spends a period of months learning about the industry and developing their skills and VALUE before they begin to see results (money).

SO, knowing this, accept it and begin pacing yourself so you can enjoy your time growing as a marketer.

Who needs the stress of:

I gotta make some money NOW!

The money will come when you’re ready.  Trust me it will flow!

In the meantime, use your time productively. Learn the skills of networking and how to utilize technology and the internet to leverage your time.

Here are three suggestions for where to spend your time each day.

  1. 1/2 hour on personal development.  A book or resource of your choice - you know what you need.
  2. Find marketers online who you know are successful and whose style you enjoy. Follow them online - as a student of marketing, critically look at what they are doing to build their businesses.
  3. Take action by comitting to market yourself and your business every day.  This means increasing your exposures either through talking with people about your business/product or creating a new online marketing presence to increase your exposures over time.

I’ll continue to suggest mentors and resources I enjoy and have benefited from in future posts, but the last thing I want to do is overwhelm you with information at this point.

Go and explore, enjoy yourself and remember - this is a marathon, not a sprint!

The people who stick with it for the long term and keep their vision clear are the people who succeed in this industry.

Back To Basics: Putting Everything Into Perspective.

Alrighty, let’s get started.

First things first. This is Part I of a series of lessons that will introduce you to some of the most useful ways to utilize technology to generate your own leads and attract prospects to you for your network marketing business.

By the end of this introductory series, you WILL have a good understanding of exactly what the gurus are doing to earn money online and attract people to them.

One request before we get started.

Let’s interact. I want to hear from you.  We’re networkers for goodness sakes!

So leave your comments below each post. Tell me what you learned, like, didn’t like and you can even request topics you’d like to learn more about.

Now…for today’s musings.

As a mentor to several hundred people, I’ve learned one thing for certain.

Most people new to attraction marketing are completely clueless of the big picture. For most it’s a frustrating situation similar to piecing together a puzzle when you don’t know what the final puzzle picture looks like.

So, I’ve learned through trial and error in my teaching that we MUST start with the big picture.

Here’s what it looks like.

  1. Work on yourself everyday.
  2. Learn as much as you can about network marketing, prospecting, communicating, being successful by surrounding yourself with successful people and putting in your time absorbing as much as you can from them.
  3. Share your message using online social networking mediums (we’ll get to the details of each later…) - share the wealth - fill others in on what you’ve learned.
  4. Attract others back to you who enjoy your leadership and want to learn more from you.
  5. Repeat all the steps and continue to improve yourself and share your message of personal freedom, leadership and growth with the world.

It’s really all about paying-it-forward.

Let me give you a concrete example.

Let’s say you’ve just learned everything there is to learn about your company’s compensation plan. That’s value you can share with people who are considering joining your company who want to learn more about the compensation plan…

Is this starting to make some sense?

Here are some examples of how you can share your knowledge online:

  1. Create a video explaining the program - use either live video with you talking, but more effective in this situation would be to use a Powerpoint or some other visual presentation.
  2. Write an article about it.
  3. Create a Squidoo lens or Hub Page about it (don’t freak out….we’ll get to these, I promise!
  4. Write a blog post about it.

You see, you’re not sending out a message trying to “get people into your business”.  Nah, lose that mentality altogether.  It doesn’t work…and it won’t get you where you want to go.

Rather, think about sharing the wealth.

What kind of message or information will help the many people online every day who are doing their due diligence on YOUR opportunity?

THAT is how you want to start thinking.

It’s all about them.  And so very little about YOU.

You become the messenger and the leader….and you’ll be amazed by how many people pick up the phone to speak to you because they want to partner with YOU in business.

That’s all for today.  I want you to really think about what we’ve discussed today, leave me a comment below letting me know if this has helped you understand a bit more of what we’re really doing with attraction marketing….

And I’ll have more for you VERY soon.

Enjoy your day :)

In Network Marketing and Life, It’s What Makes Or Breaks Ya…

I’ve been thinking quite a bit lately about the difference between people who succeed in online marketing/network marketing and those who don’t.
My husband, Zach’s profound bumper sticker says it all:

“Attitude Makes The Difference!”

So true.
Simple?
Not at all.
Shit, is it ever hard.
When we have a crummy attitude, it’s a hard thing to shake. And it’s worse when someone tells you you’ve gotta change, isn’t it?
I can’t stand it.
But if you want to succeed, you’ve got to “get this”. It’s a decision whether you succeed or fail. Pure and simple. I’ve watched people make this shift many times. It’s as if something finally clicks and they decide to stop the self pity - company not doing this, sponsor not doing that…blah, blah, blah - and they decide, you know what, I’m going to succeed at this.

And then they do it.

Amazing really….

How’s your attitude today?

Video Submission Tools: Tube Mogul Vs. Traffic Geyser

First off, I’m no expert with either Tube Mogul or Traffic Geyser. And I don’t pretend to be.

I use video marketing as my main marketing strategy for my online business and have tested both Traffic Geyser and Tube Mogul - video submission tools that allow you to submit your videos to multiple sites at once.

Tube Mogul is FREE, Traffic Geyser is Subscription Based:
So the question becomes-

Is it worth the extra expense to use Traffic Geyser rather than Tube Mogul.

I didn’t think so….and I’ll tell you why.
1. Many upload failures with Traffic Geyser - this is my biggest complaint. And honestly, it could have been operator error, but I’ve had many people share their similar experience with me. I’d say about 50% of my videos would upload correctly.
2. Tube Mogul’s MUCH easier to use- pretty self-explanatory.
3. Tube Mogul uploads to the major players - I’ve found uploading to the major video sites such as: Google, Yahoo, Metacafe and youTube works just fine. No cost, tons of traffic….

And no HASSLE.

The most important things to remember when using video to market yourself and your business are:

1. Make sure your video quality is good…if not great.
2. Offer people value, not commercials.
3. Link your videos to a squeeze page that converts well and is a natural transition from the video - for instance, you DON’T want to go from a video about dog walking to a squeeze page geared for cat lovers. There needs to be a good flow.
4. Offer great CONTENT - content really is king. And if you want people coming back for more, give their experience of YOU your top priority.
